icon Launches Inaugural Artsy Exhibition: 12 Japanese Photographers Redefine Contemporary Visual Language
TOKYO/ONLINE – December 4, 2025 – icon channel, Tokyo’s leading contemporary photography platform, announces its first online exhibition on Artsy, the world’s largest online art marketplace. Running December 4, 2025, through January 15, 2026, this landmark exhibition presents 12 carefully selected Japanese photographers, offering international collectors unprecedented access to a movement reshaping global visual discourse.
A New Chapter in Japanese Photography
Since 2021, icon has united over 50 artists who challenge photographic expression’s boundaries. “This exhibition showcases a new generation of Japanese artists creating visual languages that speak to universal human experiences—life and death, presence and absence, the eternal and the ephemeral,” says Tomohide Ikeya, founder and creative director of icon.

Between Tradition and Innovation
The works explore profound boundaries: between tradition and innovation, analog and digital, Eastern philosophy and contemporary global aesthetics. Artists employ diverse approaches—from experimental techniques merging ancient Japanese concepts of ma (negative space) and wabi-sabi (imperfect beauty) with digital tools, to bold explorations of color, light, and texture challenging conventional photographic practice.
Curatorial Vision
By presenting these artists on Artsy’s global stage, icon creates crucial opportunities for international recognition—essential support for photographers navigating the contemporary art market. “This exhibition invites discovery of artists whose visual innovations will define tomorrow’s photographic landscape,” notes Ikeya.
